Showerthought: I spent 2 years overthinking hashtags for my art posts until I counted which ones actually drove clicks

It was last Tuesday when I pulled my Instagram insights and realized the 3 generic hashtags I slapped on as afterthoughts got 80% of the engagement while the clever ones I curated got zero, has anyone else run a deep dive on their own hashtag strategy and found a huge mismatch like that?

It actually reminds me of this time I was trying to figure out why my cat kept staring at the wall for hours. Turned out there was a tiny spider living in the corner. I wasted weeks reading up on cat behavior when the answer was just a bug. Same vibe with hashtags I guess. You dig deep for all this strategy and the real answer is just whatever is right in front of you.

Huh, that cat story is actually a perfect analogy though lmao. What made you finally stop overthinking and just look at the wall yourself instead of reading more articles? I feel like that's the part people struggle with the most - knowing when to stop analyzing and just check the obvious thing. Cause once you start down that rabbit hole of strategy, it's hard to admit the answer was simpler the whole time. Did you ever catch yourself doing the same thing with anything else after that spider situation?
