A random viewer called out my video pacing and it totally changed how I edit now

I was making a 15 minute deep dive on how that weird 'sea shanty' trend blew up last year. Someone commented that I took 4 minutes to get to the point and they clicked off before the good part. I went back and watched my older stuff and yeah, they were right. So now I front-load every video with the hook within the first 30 seconds and save the background stuff for later. Has anyone else had a viewer critique that actually improved their content?

Have you ever noticed how your editing style changes what kind of audience sticks around? Because that pacing critique probably did more than just tighten your videos. It likely weeded out people who don't care about the real deep stuff and brought in viewers who actually want to watch your whole video. Thats the part nobody mentions.

That comment about the 4 minute intro is exactly what I needed to hear too. I had someone tell me my video on the history of the pumpkin spice latte had a 3 minute ramble about fall memories before I even mentioned the drink. It hurt at first, but they were right. Do you think cutting the fluff changed the kind of comments you get now, or did it mostly just boost your retention numbers?
