Spent $200 on promoted posts and got zero real engagement
I thought paying for reach would solve everything. Threw $200 at Instagram boosts over 3 weeks. Got a bunch of bot likes and some fake comments. No actual follows or sales. Just taught me that organic content beats paid garbage every time. Anyone else get burned by boosts?

Promoted posts only work if your organic content already has some traction behind it. Sounds like you threw money at cold traffic with no foundation, and that almost never works out. Better to spend that $200 on improving your actual posts and let the algorithm do the rest for free.

See, I gotta push back on this a bit. $200 on cold traffic can work if you know what you're doing with targeting. I ran a small side gig selling band patches and spent $150 on a Facebook boost - targeted at people who liked specific punk bands and lived in cities where we were playing shows. Got like 40 real sales out of it. The issue isn't paid vs organic, it's that most people just hit the "boost post" button without picking the right audience or having a clear offer. If your post was just some generic photo with no hook or call to action, those bots ate it up. You gotta test small first and dial in your targeting before you drop real money.
