Rant: A follower told me my captions were too long and it actually helped

Honestly, I used to write these huge story captions for my posts, thinking it made them better. Like, three or four full sentences every time. Then last month, someone commented, 'Love the pic but I never read the book you wrote under it lol.' That hit me hard. I looked at my numbers and my posts with shorter captions were doing way better, getting more saves and shares. So I changed my whole plan. Now I keep it to one line, maybe two, and end with a simple question to get people talking. My reach went up almost 40% in two weeks just from that. Has anyone else had someone point out a bad habit that turned out to be killing your engagement?

My friend used to post these huge recipe intros before the actual ingredients. A follower finally told her to just get to the point. She cut the intro and her recipe saves doubled in a month. Sometimes you just need that outside view to see what's not working.

Honestly, I needed that same talk with my own blog last year. Tbh I was writing these long stories about my grandma's kitchen before every cleaning tip. Ngl, cutting that stuff out felt weird, but people actually started using the advice.
