Question about the 3 hashtag rule, because a bakery owner in Portland told me something different
I run social for a small shop and for 6 months I was stuffing 20 hashtags on every post because some video said that was the trick. Last Tuesday a bakery owner in Portland told me she cut hers down to 3 specific tags and her reach went up about 40 percent in a month. I tried it for 2 weeks and my saves went from 11 to 34 on similar posts, which is small but it's something. Has anyone else seen fewer tags work better, or is this just luck on my end?
The part that gets missed is that the tags have to actually match what the post is about. If you slap 20 tags on a photo of a croissant, half of them are lying, and the app can tell because it reads your caption and the image. Three tags that fit the post tells it exactly who to show it to, so the people who see it are the ones who care. Your saves jumping from 11 to 34 makes sense too, saves are a way stronger signal than likes and few tags means the right eyes land on it.
