My friend told me to post at 3 AM and it was a total waste of time
My buddy Mark, who runs a small skate shop, swore that posting his Instagram Reels at 3 AM local time was the secret. He said the algorithm was 'sleeping' and his content would get a better shot. So for two weeks, I set my alarm for 2:55 AM to post my video game clips. I was exhausted, and the results were terrible. My views dropped by over 60% compared to my usual 7 PM posts. The people who were online at that hour just weren't my audience. It taught me that timing advice is useless if you don't know when YOUR specific followers are actually scrolling. What's a piece of timing advice you tried that completely backfired?

Ugh, I saw some "expert" say you should post when there's less competition. Tried posting my band's stuff super early on Sundays, but it just got buried by the time people woke up. That quiet time was a total dead zone.

My cousin got obsessed with this idea that you had to post exactly when people were on their lunch break. She makes these really detailed baking videos, and someone told her noon on weekdays was the golden hour. So she started dropping her new recipes at 12:05 PM sharp every Tuesday. Turns out her main followers are other bakers and parents, who are busy making lunch then, not watching long videos. Her engagement totally tanked for a month straight. She figured out they actually watch stuff later in the evening when the kitchen is quiet. It just goes to show how bad general timing rules can be.
