My engagement tanked after I stopped using carousels for a month

I used to post single image posts on Instagram and get maybe 200 likes. Then I switched to carousels with 5-7 slides for about 2 months and my reach went up to around 800-1000 per post. Last month I got lazy and went back to single images. Now I'm stuck back at 200 likes again. Has anyone else seen this huge of a drop when they stopped using carousels?

Dude I went through basically the same thing. Ran a little side page for my shop where I'd post tool reviews and repair tips. Switched to carousels with like 6 slides and my numbers jumped way up. Then got busy and slacked off back to single photos, engagement dropped off a cliff just like yours. What worked for me was finding a middle ground, doing 3-4 slide carousels that still give people that swipe action without being a full slideshow to put together. Keeps the algorithm happy but doesn't burn me out. The reach difference is real though, carousels just seem to trigger something that single images dont.
