I switched from posting at 9am to 9pm for 30 days and my reach dropped, now I can't tell if timing even matters

For 30 days I posted at 9am like every blog says, and my reach sat around 2,000 views a post. Then I tried 9pm for the next 30 days because a guy in a Discord swore nights were better, and I dropped to 800 average. Some folks say the app just tests your post for an hour and timing barely matters, others say your real followers' habits are all that count. I honestly can't tell if I wasted 60 days or learned something. What time do you post, and did you actually test it or just go with what felt right?
