Dropped $200 on promoted posts on Instagram last week and got basically nothing back

I boosted three different reels with solid engagement already and my reach actually dropped after the promotion ended. Anyone else feel like the boost button is just a trap to take your money?

Boosting posts after they already have good engagement is actually the wrong move. Instagram's algorithm sees that as you trying to game the system and it will punish your reach. You should actually boost posts that are brand new with zero engagement to test if they have potential. The real trap is that Instagram wants you to keep paying forever because once the boost ends, your organic reach drops back down to nothing. Have you tried just posting consistently without boosting and seeing how your regular audience reacts first?

Ha! I feel personally attacked because I once boosted a post that was already doing well and my engagement literally fell off a cliff the next week. Guess I learned the hard way that Instagram doesn't appreciate my "creative" marketing genius.

Just stop boosting anything that already has momentum, you're throwing money at a problem that doesn't exist. Instagram's algorithm treats boosted posts like paid ads, so once you stop paying, it stops caring about your reach completely. You'd be better off putting that $200 into creating one really solid piece of content and just letting it ride naturally for a week or two. I run a small freight dispatch side gig on top of my trucking, and I learned the hard way that organic reach beats boosted stuff every time if you actually post what people want to see. Focus on hooking people in the first 3 seconds with a strong visual or a question they can't ignore. Save your cash for the days when you absolutely need to reach a totally new audience fast, not for posts that are already getting love.
