Visited a comp in Kansas City, changed my mind about pellet grills

Went to the American Royal last month and watched a pellet setup take 2nd in brisket. I always figured pellets couldn't hang with stick burners, but the smoke ring and bark on that thing were legit. Anyone else see pellet rigs placing at serious comps lately, or was this a fluke?
