Shoutout to the guy who sold me a used WSM 22 for $40

Picked it up from a guy in Raleigh three years ago and it's still holding temp better than my buddy's brand new offset that cost 20 times as much.

Sold mine a few years back for a similar price and I still kick myself for letting it go. Those old WSMs are built like tanks, I swear they last forever if you take care of them. You got a steal for 40 bucks, especially compared to what some folks drop on fancy offsets that don't even hold heat right. Sounds like that guy had no idea what he was letting go of. Glad to hear yours is still doing the job.

Read that same thing from a barbecue blog last week. Said the old WSMs were made with thicker steel than the new ones. The newer models still work fine but they're not as bulletproof. I bet your old one is still going strong. Makes me wonder how many great smokers get sold cheap because people just don't know what they have.

Are we really sure this is the win everyone thinks it is? I mean, forty bucks is forty bucks but that smoker is probably way too small for anything bigger than a couple racks of ribs. Offsets are harder to manage sure but when you get it dialed in the flavor is way better than anything a WSM can put out. Plus that used one might have rust inside the legs or dents in the lid that you just can't see. I bet that buddy with the expensive offset is smoking you on bigger cooks every time.
