Pro tip: My old offset smoker's firebox door finally rusted through last weekend.
I found a replacement online for $80, but it got me thinking how much simpler the gear was when I started out. Anyone have a good fix for a 3/16 inch steel plate, or should I just bite the bullet and order the part?

Honestly I'd just patch it with a piece of scrap steel and some bolts. That replacement part cost is crazy for what it is. A quick fix lets you get back to cooking today.

My old grill has three patches just like that.

Actually those patches look like heat damage from a grease fire. Might want to check your burners too.
