My offset smoker died mid-brisket at a cookoff in Tulsa and I finished on a borrowed kettle
Two summers back I was at a small cookoff in Tulsa when my offset smoker's firebox weld cracked about 4 hours into a 14 pound brisket. I ended up borrowing a guy's old Weber kettle from two tents over and finished the cook with charcoal and wood chunks wrapped in foil, which felt like cheating but the judges never knew. Has anyone else had to MacGyver their way through a cook when their main rig gave out, and did the meat actually turn out okay?
