My firebox door hinge gave out during an overnight brisket cook
It happened around 3 AM last Friday. I was checking the temp when the whole lower hinge just snapped off, dropping the heavy steel door onto my patio. I had to use a pair of locking pliers and some heavy wire to rig it shut to keep the heat in. Has anyone else had a hinge fail like that on a standard offset smoker?

Hinge failure is basically a user maintenance problem. Those parts need regular cleaning and oiling to handle the heat cycles. Letting it get to that point is just asking for a midnight repair job.

My own hinge failures usually involve forgetting to close the laptop before picking it up.
