Found out how much wood Myron Mixon actually goes through in a single competition

I was watching an old interview clip from a Texas food festival on YouTube and he said he uses about a full cord of wood for just one contest. That's a crazy amount of oak and hickory. It really puts the scale of those big competitions into perspective for a backyard cook like me. Anyone else surprised by how much fuel the top-tier guys burn through?

A full cord? My grill runs on hopes and dreams and the occasional bag of charcoal from the gas station.

Remember that video of the guy who tried to build a smoker out of a filing cabinet? He used maybe three chunks of wood for a whole brisket and wondered why it tasted like office supplies. That fuel amount is the real difference between a toy and a tool.

I was literally just reading an old barbecue forum post about how some people use like half a bag of wood chips for a full smoke and end up with meat that tastes like a campfire that went out too early. It's wild how many people think a little wisp of smoke counts as fuel, you know?
