TIL a 70 year old barber in Duluth told me to stop using hot towels on curly hair and he was right
Last month a retired barber named Walt came through my shop in Duluth and watched me do a taper on a kid with thick curls. He said hot towels dry out the cuticle and frizz it out, so I tested it for 2 weeks on 6 curly haired clients and skipped the towel steam each time. Every single one of them left with tighter curls and zero frizz halo, and 3 of them booked again. Walt just nodded when I saw him and said he learned that in 1978 from a guy who cut hair on a Navy ship. Now I keep the towels cold on curly clients and my mirror selfies finally look right. Curious if any of you run hot towels on curls and get away with it.
