The day my clipper guard gave my client a reverse mohawk

Had a client come in for a simple fade at my shop near downtown Austin. I grabbed what I thought was my #2 guard, but it was actually the #0 from a pile on my station. One pass down the center of his head and he had this perfect strip of nearly bald hair from forehead to crown. He looked at the mirror and just busted out laughing, asked if I was starting a new punk trend. I fixed it by blending everything down to a 0 and giving him a proper buzz cut, which honestly looked way better than the fade he asked for. Has anyone else had a mix-up like this where the mistake turned out better than the original plan?

a new punk trend" honestly sounds like he was cooler with it than you were. I mean, it's hair, it grows back, and the dude left with a buzz cut that probably looked fine. Maybe the real mistake is acting like a 2 and a 0 are even close to the same thing.

People keep saying 2 and 0 are basically the same, @the_parker, but that's a clipper setting difference of nearly half an inch. A 2 still leaves some texture and a bit of coverage, while a 0 is bare scalp. That's a whole different look, and if he wasn't expecting it, I can see why he'd be upset. Cool with it or not, there's a big jump between those numbers.
