Switched from thinning shears to texturizing razors three months ago
I used to reach for my thinning shears on every taper. Thought that was the only way to soften up bulky spots. Then a barber at the Midwest Expo in Chicago showed me how a texturizing razor gives a way cleaner blend. No more jagged lines or weird gaps. Took me about a week to get the hang of it. Now I only use shears for heavy bulk removal. Has anyone else made this switch and stuck with it?

Did you find it messed with your timing at first? I had to slow way down for like two weeks when I switched over, kept taking off too much on the fade line. What really clicked for me was using the razor just for the last step after clipping, gives that soft texture without eating into the shadow too fast. Still grab my shears for thick cowlicks though, razors just make those worse.

But what about when the hair is super coarse, does the razor still glide okay?

Coarse hair plus a razor is like trying to slide a butter knife through a brick wall lol. I tried it once on this thick patch at the back of my buddy's head and the razor just started snagging and making this horrible ripping sound. Now I only bust out the razor on the finer sections near the ears or neck, everything else gets the clippers with a guard. Your angle has to be way more shallow too, like almost flat against the skin, or you're just asking for a tug-of-war.
