Spent $80 on a high-end thinning shear and it's gathering dust
Bought a Mizutani 30-tooth thinning shear three months ago, thinking it would level up my fades. Used it twice. Keeps snagging on fine hair and now I'm back to my $40 pair from the supply store. Anyone else regret splurging on fancy tools?

Gotta call you out a little though - those 30 tooth shears aren't really meant for fine hair in the first place, they work better on thicker texture. Try switching to a 40 or 46 tooth if you decide to give it another shot.

Well that's an interesting point but I gotta ask - have you actually tried selling used barber tools online? It's a nightmare. People want to haggle over a 15 dollar shear and then complain it's not sharp enough. And if you're a working barber, your time is literally money. Spending an afternoon listing, shipping, and dealing with returns for a 30 dollar shear isn't worth it for most of us. Plus you risk being without a tool you might need for a backup. So the real question is, why would you suggest someone go through all that hassle when they could just keep the 30 tooth for thicker hair and buy a 46 tooth for fine work? That way they have both options ready to go.
