Showerthought: I saw a barber in Portland using a straight razor on a beard for the whole cut

I was in Portland last week and popped into this old school shop just to check it out. The barber there did a full beard shape-up and haircut using only a straight razor, no clippers at all. I mean, I've seen it for finishing, but never the whole service. It looked super clean but also made me a bit nervous watching. Has anyone else ever done a full cut that way, or is that more of a niche thing?

You mentioned it made you nervous to watch. Was it the skill level that seemed risky, or just the idea of that much blade work on your face? I've only ever seen it in those classic, high-end shops that really specialize in that old craft.
