Rinsing shears in hot water after every client wrecked my edges

I used to just wipe my shears and toss them in a jar of hot water between cuts to keep them clean. After about 3 months I noticed my blades were chipping way faster and cuts started grabbing instead of slicing. Anyone else run into this and find a better way to keep your tools clean without ruining them?

Wait were you just sitting them in hot water or did you actually soak them for a while? Because I've heard that the constant heat can mess with the temper of the steel over time, especially if the water is overly hot. How hot are we talking here, like just warm tap water or the kind of hot that'd make your hands uncomfortable? Cause I feel like a quick rinse under hot water is one thing but letting them sit in a jar of it might be a whole different animal.

Right, the "quick rinse vs. prolonged soak" thing is a key distinction, I think (and I'm with you on the tempering worry, that's a real concern with cheaper knives or constant extreme heat). For me it's always been just a quick pass under uncomfortably hot tap water, like the hottest my hands can handle for a couple seconds, never a sit-down bath.
