Picked a foil shaver over clippers for my bald fade routine and never looked back

I used to do all my bald fades with my Wahl seniors. Took forever, always missed spots. Switched to a foil shaver six months ago for the zero part. Cuts the time by 15 minutes per head and the finish is way cleaner. Anyone else make that swap?

Stick with the foil shaver for the zero part but still use your clippers for the blend? Or did you completely ditch the clippers and just do the whole fade with foil?

Huh, did you ever try using a trimmer with a zero guard on the sideburn area before going in with the foil? I remember when I first started cutting my own hair, I got a bit carried away with the foil and ended up with a weird bald spot near my temple. @kaid59, I think you might dig this story - my buddy tried the foil-only fade once and ended up looking like he had a racing stripe because he didn't blend the lines right. Now I always use clippers for the fade part, then clean up the edges with foil.

Wait, are you saying you use the clippers for the whole fade and just the foil for a final cleanup then? That actually makes a LOT of sense to me because I've always found the foil can be too aggressive if you're not careful. I tried Grace's method once with just a foil for the fade and ended up with a patchy mess near my crown, looked like a moth had been at it for a week. Now I do the whole fade with my clippers, step by step, and only get the foil out for the absolute neckline and sideburn edges. It's just safer that way and saves you from having to explain a weird haircut to people at work.
