My dad said to always charge for a beard trim, even if it's just a quick cleanup

For years, I gave free cleanups on beards when someone came in just for a haircut. My dad, who ran his own shop for 30 years, kept telling me 'you're leaving money on the table, your time and skill have value.' I finally listened about six months ago and started adding a small fee for any beard work, even a five minute shape-up. Honestly, I was scared clients would get mad. But you know what? Not a single person complained. In fact, my bookings for full beard services went UP because people now see it as a real service, not just a free extra. My average ticket went from about $28 to $35. It changed how I view every single thing I do in the chair. Has anyone else made a switch like this with their pricing?

Totally agree with john_flores, saw that on a business blog.

That's a solid point but it really depends on your shop vibe. My regulars love the free cleanup as part of the haircut, feels more like a full service. Noah_hill79 might get it, but for me keeping that personal touch pays off more.

Your dad was right on the money! It's funny how we're scared to charge for the small stuff, but then people actually respect it more. You went from giving away freebies to running a proper business. Good for you for finally listening to the old man's advice.
