My barber mentor swore by rusty clippers, I finally get why

Old Sal from Jersey told me to never oil my clippers for the first 6 months, said the rust builds a better edge. I thought he was messing with me, but I tried it on a beat up pair I didn't care about. Three weeks in, the blades started grabbing hair weird on fade lines, and I nearly ruined a regular's taper on a Tuesday. Then by week 8, that same pair cut smoother than my $200 new ones, no joke. I still oil everything else, but those rusty clippers are my go to for zero gapped fades now. Anyone else got a weird old school tip that actually worked out against all logic?

Respect the grind, man, that's a wild one and I totally get why you'd trust it after seeing it work. I've had a few old timers tell me stuff that sounded crazy at first, and the ones that stuck were always the ones that made no sense on paper. Glad those rusty blades are treating you right, sounds like you found a real secret weapon.
