I thought those cheap plastic neck strips were fine until I got a rash complaint
For years I bought the bulk pack of 500 for like $12, thinking it was just a simple barrier. Then a regular came in last month with a red line on his neck, said it only happens after his cut here. I switched to the single use paper ones, the ones that feel like a soft coffee filter, and it cost me about $25 for 250. Not one issue since, and clients actually mention how much nicer they feel. Has anyone else had a skin reaction problem with the plastic ones, or found a better brand that doesn't break the bank?

It's smart you made the switch after that complaint. Those plastic strips can be rough on sensitive skin, and it's not worth the risk to your clients' comfort. The paper ones are a clear upgrade in feel, even if the cost is a bit higher. I've heard similar stories from other barbers who noticed irritation with the cheaper option.

Oh man, tell me about it... I tried those plastic strips once and it felt like someone was trying to sand my neck off. The worst part is some shops still use them like it's no big deal. You'd think avoiding skin rash would be a basic part of the service. I guess saving a few cents is worth making people itchy and red for a day. Paper is the only way to go, even if you have to charge a tiny bit more.

My own barber switched to paper after @the_robin's post about the sandpaper feel.
