I finally stopped using clipper oil after that old barber in Chicago told me to just wipe the blades down with Barbicide

He showed me his 20-year old Oster 76 that he said never saw a drop of oil (just a quick spray and wipe after every head) and I gave it a shot on my own clippers for a month and they actually run smoother quieter and don't gunk up as fast, has anyone else ditched the oil or am I the only one who got converted?

Wait, you're honestly telling me a month without oil made your clippers run smoother? I call BS on that one. Barbicide is a disinfectant, not a lubricant, and it actually has alcohol that dries out the metal over time. I tried that for two weeks and my blades started dragging and getting hot spots, especially on thicker hair. Oil is cheap and keeps the friction down where metal meets metal, so I'm sticking with it.

My barber buddy ran a shop for 15 years and swears by just wiping blades clean with a dry cloth and a quick spritz of clipper spray every few days. I tried his way for a month on my Wahl seniors and they actually ran quieter, no heat issues at all. I think the key is keeping them bone dry so hair dust doesn't cake up, not relying on oil to mask the gunk.
