I always thought a hot towel was just a nice extra, but a client in Austin said his skin breaks out less when I use one before every shave.

He specifically told me, 'My old barber never did it, and I'd get bumps for days, but now it's totally clear,' which made me realize it's not just about feeling fancy, it's a real skin prep step that actually helps prevent irritation for some guys.

Oh man, that totally makes sense. It's like when you try to paint a wall that's still dusty, the paint just clumps up and looks bad. The hot towel probably softens everything up and opens the pores so the hair comes out clean. If the hair gets cut while it's still stiff and the pore is tight, maybe it snaps back inside weird and causes those bumps. Never really thought of it as a necessary step, but that's a solid point.

Disagree, my barber skips the towel and my skin's fine.
