Hot towel vs cold towel after a shave, I used to think hot was the only way

Six years cutting in Tulsa and I always reached for the hot towel, thought it was the classic move. Then an older barber in my shop swore cold closes the pores better and reduces skin irritation, tried it on a client with sensitive skin and he stopped flinching halfway through the appointment. Am I crazy for switching, or do any of you guys mix it up based on the client's skin type?

You ever try warm, not hot, and see if that hits the middle ground?
