Finally ditched the clipper guard for a freehand fade on a real client

I've been practicing freehand fades on mannequins for like 6 months but was too scared to try it on a paying customer. This morning a regular named Dave said he wanted a tight skin fade and I just went for it with no guard. It actually came out clean and he tipped me an extra $10, so I think I'll stick with this method from now on. Has anyone else made the switch and regretted it on certain hair types?

Your mileage may vary but fine hair fades way cleaner freehand in my experience.

Three freehand fades in a row and I agree completely.

@emery_young13 you're totally right, my buddy tried freehand on thick coarse hair and it was a nightmare.
