Faded a guy's hair too high and had to scramble fast

So I was cutting this regular client last Tuesday, dude always wants a medium fade. I got carried away with the clipper and opened up the lever too soon on the left side, ended up pushing his fade line up way past a 2 guard. I had to blend it into more of a high skin fade on the fly, which he did not ask for. Client was cool about it after I explained and knocked $10 off the cut, but man I felt like an idiot for 10 minutes straight. Has anyone else had to completely change a haircut mid way through because of a slip up?

Did you try telling him it's called the "accidental high fade" and it adds street cred? Clients usually buy it if you sell it with confidence.

Haha, I love the "accidental high fade" idea. I tried that once on my own hair (don't ask) and told my barber it was a "strategic taper mess-up." The guy just stared at me like I had three heads. Maybe I need to work on my confidence, because apparently selling it with street cred is the real trick here (mine just looked like I let a toddler loose with clippers).
