Bought a $90 vintage straight razor on eBay, spent 4 days trying to shave with it

Honestly, I saw this cool 1950s straight razor from a seller in Ohio and thought I'd look classy during my lunch break shaves. Paid $90 for it plus shipping, then spent every evening for four days watching tutorials and stropping it wrong. First attempt felt like dragging a cheese grater down my cheek, and I nicked my jawline in three spots. Second try was worse because I used too much pressure and ended up with razor burn that lasted a week. The blade needed a honing stone I didn't own, so I shelled out another $40 at a local shop in Austin to get it sharpened. Now it sits in my drawer and I just stick to my regular safety razor. Anyone else fallen for the vintage blade aesthetic or is my face just not built for that old school vibe?

I feel you on that "cheese grater" thing. I did the exact same thing with a vintage blade a few years back and it took me forever to realize the angle was everything, like way flatter against my skin than I thought. Once I stopped pressing hard and just let the weight of the blade do the work, it clicked, plus I learned to do those little short strokes instead of trying to sweep the whole cheek.
