Appreciation post: the barber who told me to stop using thinning shears on kids
I was cutting this 8 year old's hair last Tuesday and his mom kept asking me to thin it out. I grabbed my shears like I always do. But then this old school barber from the shop next door walked over and said 'stop, you're gonna ruin his texture.' He showed me how to use point cutting instead. Now his hair actually lays flat instead of looking choppy. Has anyone else had to unlearn using thinning shears on younger clients?

Point cutting is way better for keeping that natural texture intact.

Did you catch that thing from the haircare subreddit a while back where someone tested point cutting vs blunt cutting on curly hair? The difference was pretty clear, the point cut strands fell way more naturally while the blunt ones looked chunky. Really drives home how much technique matters for texture.
