Update: My sourdough starter actually improved after I stopped feeding it daily

I used to feed my starter every single day like every blog says. Did that for about 4 months straight. My bread came out flat and dense every time. Then I went on a week trip to Portland and just stuck it in the fridge. Left it alone. Came back, fed it once, and baked. That was 3 weeks ago. The crumb was way more open and the rise was better than anything I'd done before. Now I only feed it when I'm about to bake, maybe twice a week tops. Anyone else had better luck neglecting their starter?

Man I burned out so hard on the daily feeding thing last winter. I had a whole calendar reminder for it and everything like I was feeding a tiny pet rock. Then I forgot it in the back of my fridge for two weeks by accident and ended up with the best loaf of my life. Now my starter lives in the fridge and only gets attention when I'm baking which is maybe twice a month. My neglected starter is honestly way happier than when I was trying to be a perfect sourdough parent.

Dude SAME! I tried the whole strict feeding routine for months and my starter was a moody mess that barely bubbled. Now she lives in the back of my fridge and gets a scoop of flour maybe once every few weeks and she's never been more active or reliable. Honestly my best sourdough tip is just to stop treating it like a science experiment and let it do its thing.
