Rant: my sister's wedding cake slid apart in the car on Route 9 and I blame the 90 degree heat
I made a three tier vanilla cake for my sister's wedding in Ridgewood last Saturday and it did not survive the drive. The buttercream got soft in the heat, so by mile six on Route 9 the top tier was leaning like the Leaning Tower of Pisa. I had it on a cardboard round in a cooler with two frozen water bottles taped to the sides, and it still slid about two inches to the left. We pulled into the venue with a cake that looked like a landslide and 40 guests already parked out front. My sister just started laughing and we shoved silk flowers into the cracks to hide the damage. Now I want to switch to a tiered stand with dowels drilled into the base, so what do you all use to keep stacked cakes from cruising around in a hot car?
