My sourdough starter kept failing at 4 weeks, turns out the tap water was the problem

I tried for a month on the same counter, same flour, same feeding schedule. Every morning it would bubble a little then die out by night. My neighbor swore her starter loved our city water. I switched to bottled water for 5 days and it tripled in size. I looked it up later, our town adds extra chlorine in summer. Has anyone else had a hidden water issue that took forever to pin down?

Chlorine in tap water got mine too, let the water sit out overnight or boil it first and it works just as good as bottled. Once I figured that out, my starter went from dead to doubling in hours.
