My kid's comment about my burnt cookies made me pause

He said 'Mom, the black parts taste like campfire.' It hit different because he wasn't complaining, just describing. Anyone else have a baking fail that got a surprisingly kind review?

It's just a cookie, not a life lesson.

You're reaching hard, nancy. A kid said something about a burnt cookie and now it's a whole life lesson? Lotta people in the world right now can't afford groceries and we're writing poetry about scorched sugar. He didn't say anything profound, he just described what burnt food tastes like. My uncle used to call burnt toast "campfire toast" too and it just meant he was hungry. Sometimes a cookie is just a burnt cookie and you toss it and move on.

What a sweet way for him to put it. It makes you wonder how kids see our little mistakes. Did his comment change how you felt about the burnt batch, maybe making it a funny memory instead of a flop?
