My grandma watched me frost a cake for 20 minutes and said 'you rush the corners,' and it still bugs me
I was at her kitchen table in Ohio last month doing a birthday cake, piping little rosettes around the edge while she sat there not saying a word. Right when I got to the fourth corner she goes 'you rush the corners,' and honestly she was right because I always get impatient at the end and the last side looks lumpy. So here's my question: do you slow down and make the last corner as good as the first, or do you just accept that the back of the cake is the ugly side nobody sees?
Man, that would stick with me too. Grandma saying stuff like that hits different because she's not being mean, she just sees right through you. I do the same thing with cakes and honestly even with wrapping presents, the last part always gets sloppy because my brain is already done. The back corner is tempting to blow off but I've started just slowing way down for those last ten seconds and it actually helps.
