Hot take: I baked 300 cookies to learn I was doing it wrong the first 297 times
Last Saturday I decided to bake chocolate chip cookies for my nephew's birthday party and ended up making 25 batches in one day, which is about 300 cookies total, because I kept messing up the butter temperature. Batch after batch came out flat and greasy until my oven thermometer showed it was running 40 degrees hotter than the dial said, so I was basically frying the dough instead of baking it. I finally got 3 decent batches once I started chilling the dough for 15 minutes and dropped the temp to 325, but my kitchen looked like a flour bomb went off and my smoke alarm went off twice. The real win was my sister saying they tasted like the ones from that bakery on 5th Street, even though I know she was lying to make me feel better. Has anyone else found out their oven lies to them, or is it just me and my cursed apartment appliance?
