Hit exactly 350F on my oven thermometer after years of guessing
My old oven dial was way off, so I finally bought a $12 hanging thermometer. The first time I checked it, the dial read 375 but the real temp was a perfect 350F for my sourdough. Has anyone else found a huge difference with a simple tool like that?

Oh man, that's the best feeling. It's crazy how we just trust the numbers on our stuff without checking. I see this all the time with tools and gauges, people working with stuff that's way out of whack because the built-in measure is lying. That one cheap tool showing you the truth changes everything. It makes you wonder what else in the house is quietly off by a few degrees or pounds.

My old oven ran 25 degrees hot for years.

Guess I'll be checking my oven now after seeing @the_robin's comment. My baking failures are starting to make a lot more sense.
