Spent $60 on a silicone bread lame and it was a game changer for my scoring
I used to use a razor blade on a chopstick for months but this cheap lame from Amazon finally gave me consistent ear lifts and clean cuts on my sourdough, has anyone else had better luck with a specific brand that doesn't cost like $50?

Wait, you spent sixty dollars on a bread lame? I had to read that twice. Mine was like eight bucks on Amazon and it's just a stick with a blade holder, works fine. I get that the cheap ones can be hit or miss but sixty seems like a lot for something that's basically a razor on a stick. Did it come with a gold plating or something?

Right, @kim819, but like for real though - what exactly makes that $60 lame so special? Is the handle made of some fancy wood or is it just a name brand tax situation? I tried a cheap one once and the blade holder kept wobbling, so I switched to just holding a razor blade with my fingers like a caveman. But sixty bucks? That better come with a lifetime warranty and a tutorial video from a professional baker or something.

Realized this applies to everything now, not just baking gear. You pay triple for the "nice" version of a simple tool and sometimes it's genuinely better, sometimes it's just the same razor on a fancier stick. The real test is whether you'd still buy it if it came in plain brown packaging.
