Rant: I bought a fancy bread scoring tool that was a total waste
I saw this artisanal lame online with a fancy handle and a pack of 20 different blades for $45. I thought it would make my sourdough scoring way better. The thing is, it was way too heavy and awkward to hold, and the blades dulled after maybe two loaves. I ended up going back to my old razor blade taped to a chopstick, which works perfectly. Has anyone else had a scoring tool let them down? What do you actually use that holds up?

Tell you what, I fell for the same thing last year. Bought a nice looking lame with a wood handle, and the weight of it just threw off my whole angle. I mean, you want it to feel like an extension of your hand, right? I also had blades that wouldn't even cut through a soft proof. Went right back to my old method, which is just a fresh single edge razor blade held in my fingers. No holder at all. Gives me way more control for those tricky ear pulls.

Ugh, same. That fancy handle just gets in the way. The bare blade feels so much more direct.

Totally agree, @morgan.logan. Read that bare blades give better feedback.
