Had to choose between a $300 mixer and a used one off Facebook
My old KitchenAid finally gave out after 10 years. I was dead set on buying a new one for $300 at the store. But a buddy said check Facebook Marketplace, so I did. Found a 5-quart model from 2018 for $60, looked clean and ran smooth. Took a chance on it and baked three batches of sourdough this week, no issues. The old owner even threw in a dough hook I didn't have. Anyone else go used and regret it or love it?

People get way too precious about kitchen gear" - man that hit me hard because I'm usually that guy lol. I spent a whole weekend polishing a scratch out of a cast iron skillet I got for free. You're right though, a $60 mixer that works is way better than a $300 paperweight with perfect paint. Maybe I need to chill out a little with the appliance obsession.

Man, people act like a scratched bowl is the end of the world. I've got a 1970s Mixmaster with a bowl that's been through hell and it still whips egg whites fine. Unless you're leaving it in a puddle of water for a week, a scuff mark isn't going to turn your mixer into a rust bucket. $60 for a 2018 KitchenAid is a no-brainer. People get way too precious about kitchen gear that's meant to be used.

Did you check if the bowl was scratched up or anything? I scored a used ice cream maker once for like 30 bucks and it worked fine for years but the bowl had this weird scuff mark that kept rusting in a spot no matter what I did. Learned to look real close at used kitchen stuff after that, especially if there's any metal showing. Glad yours turned out good though, $60 is a steal for a solid mixer.
