Had my stand mixer lock up mid-batch on Saturday

I was making a double batch of brioche dough for my farmers market stall in Portland and the motor just seized 3 minutes in. Turned out a metal clip from the beater broke off and jammed the gear train - anyone else had internal parts fail on a mixer under 4 years old?

My KitchenAid is 8 years old and I've never had a clip fail like that. Double batches of stiff dough can stress the machine more than normal use, and the locking pin on the bowl sometimes isn't fully engaged causing extra strain on the gears. Maybe check if your warranty covers manufacturing defects on the beater before paying for a repair.

Wait did you actually call KitchenAid or just check online? My buddy had a similar issue with his 5 year old mixer, the beater clip snapped clean off while he was making bagel dough. He was about to pay $60 for a new one, but his wife called KitchenAid and they sent a replacement free after he sent a photo. They said it was a known issue with some older batches.

Did you check if the beater had a lifetime warranty? Mine broke and KitchenAid replaced it for free.
