Finally caved and tried a digital scale for my bread dough after years of eyeballing it
I've been baking sourdough for like 4 years and always just used measuring cups. Last week I picked up a $12 scale from Target because I kept getting dense loaves. First batch with the scale came out way lighter and springier. I was shocked how much of a difference 50 extra grams of flour makes. Now I feel kinda dumb for resisting so long lol. Anyone else have a tool they avoided for ages that actually helped?

Patricia made me realize my scale also fixed my inconsistent hydration for bagels...

Target needs to put "bread marriage saver" on that $12 scale box because mine went from edible bricks to actual bread overnight. Funny how 50 grams of flour is the difference between artisan baker and someone who can only give their neighbors "dense doorstops" for the holidays.
