Pro tip: write down the weirdest line in a bad movie, then read it out loud at your next watch party
Two years ago at my buddy Dave's place in Tucson we were halfway through a movie where a guy punches a shark, and Dave paused it and said, "read that line back to me out loud." I did, and the whole room lost it harder than they had at the actual scene. Now we keep a running list of one-liners on the back of an old pizza box, and reading them cold before we pick the next film is half the fun. It also helps because we can spot a dud in the first ten minutes and swap it out. What's the line your group still quotes years later?
Have you noticed how this same thing works with almost anything once you start saying it out loud instead of just hearing it? Like when someone types a weird text and you read it aloud in a dumb voice, it suddenly becomes ten times funnier. There's something about your own ears hearing it that makes the dumb parts pop out way more than they do in your head. Movie lines, song lyrics, even work emails, saying them out loud just breaks the spell.
