Went to that big hardware store near Denver last weekend and saw someone return a half-used bag of concrete mix
The guy behind the counter didn't even blink, just took it back and gave him store credit. Has anyone else seen how lazy the return policies are getting?

I saw a guy return a half-empty can of paint at the Home Depot off 36 last month. The cashier just scanned it and handed him a refund no questions asked. Its wild. They'll take back anything short of a pile of sawdust at this point. Ive seen people return opened tile boxes with a couple tiles missing and they still get store credit. Really makes you wonder how much stuff just ends up in their dumpster. But hey, their policy their problem I guess.

Yeah that return policy is basically a legalized scam at this point. You could probably walk in with a bag of air and call it "empty paint can" and they'd still give you store credit. I've seen people return plants that were dead for like two months with dirt still crusted on the roots and the cashier just shrugs and hands them a refund. At this rate I'm half surprised they don't have a drive-thru return window so you can toss stuff in without even getting out of your car. The real question is how much of that returned junk they actually restock versus just piling up in some landfill somewhere. But hey, if they want to be the bank of free stuff for half the county, that's their funeral.

Man I actually used to work returns at a store like that for a couple years. Pro tip: if you ever need to return something opened, bring it in the original packaging and act like you just changed your mind. I've seen people return half a bag of mulch with leaves poking out the top and still get their money back because they smiled and said "bought too much." The key is being polite because the employee literally does not care, they just scan and process. But honestly, half that returned concrete probably just gets written off as damaged and thrown in the compactor anyway.
