That neighbor was right about my raised bed soil mix
Old guy down the street told me to add perlite and compost instead of just bagged topsoil, I laughed it off. After two seasons of stunted tomatoes I finally tried his recipe and my peppers doubled in size - anyone else stubbornly refuse good advice for way too long?

Buddy of mine spent three years fighting with his raised beds, swore by straight Miracle Gro soil. His neighbor finally talked him into mixing in some compost and perlite from the local nursery. Next season his zucchini looked like baseball bats, he still won't admit the old guy was right though.

Man, THREE YEARS fighting with Miracle Gro soil? That's insane. I would've given up after one season of sad veggies. Your buddy must have the patience of a saint, or just really hates admitting he's wrong. That zucchini bit makes me laugh though, proof is in the baseball bat sized produce.
