Found out my great grandpa had a better compost method than I do
Was going through some old family photos last weekend at my mom's place, and I found a letter my great grandpa wrote back in the 1940s about his garden. He talked about how he'd layer his compost with specific weeds from the yard, not just kitchen scraps. Turns out he was using something called 'dynamic accumulator' plants without even knowing the term. I looked it up after and found out dandelion roots pull nutrients from deep in the soil that regular plants can't reach. So for the last 6 months I've been tossing dandelions from my lawn into the compost pile and my tomatoes are noticeably bigger. Kind of wild that a guy with no internet figured out stuff I'm just now learning. Anyone else find old family tricks that actually work better than modern advice?

My gram used coffee grounds on her roses for years. Stuff works.

Huh, that's actually pretty eye opening. I used to think composting was just about throwing kitchen scraps in a bin and waiting, but now I realize there's way more depth to it. Guess the old timers really knew their stuff way before all the fancy garden apps came along.
