Water filters vs tablets, I flipped after 2 trips in the Smokies
I always thought tablets were fine, cheaper and lighter, but after a giardia scare near Fontana Lake I switched to a squeeze filter and now I'm skeptical of going back. Anyone else have a gear stance they totally reversed after one bad experience, or am I just being paranoid?
Went through the same thing with my stove a few years back after it quit on me in the rain on the AT, and now I carry a backup even though it adds weight. One bad trip will change how you pack real quick, and it sounds like your gut is telling you the filter is worth the few extra ounces. Cost and weight stop mattering much when you're sick in the woods miles from your car.
