Tried a hammock setup for the Appalachian Trail this spring, hated every night of it

I swapped my tent for a hammock on a 5-day stretch near Roan Mountain, and by day 3 my back was killing me from sleeping curved. Anyone else ditch the hammock trend and go back to sleeping on the ground?

And then you gotta deal with the whole suspension system messing with your sleep angle too.

Oh man, tell me about it. I had a cheap old hammock with a bent spreader bar and it felt like I was sleeping in a potato chip. The suspension was all twisted and sagging on one side, so I'd wake up with my feet way higher than my head. It threw my whole back out for a week. I finally switched to a simple rope suspension with a structural ridgeline and now I can actually get a flat lay without fighting the angle.
